We had a very successful WRTP in late 2006 to early 2007 of this year, with a number of the athletes competing in the 2007 Myrtle Beach Marathon on February 17th.
Here's a picture of one of our athletes Siobhan, and below are her thoughts on how the day went.
Hi TrySports Team, the only picture I have is with one of my kiddos (Alexis), but it's appropriate because I was running Myrtle Beach this year in honor of her b-day which was 2/19. It was a way to see how far I'd come in a years time.
This was my 9th marathon but the first time I'd ever incorporated consistent speed work into my training. I really like that aspect of the training and could tell that I was getting faster on my runs. However, I was also plagued with various injuries probably due to starting back too fast and hard after having a baby. But the end result was great. I felt tired but good during the race as I was following the 3:40 pace group. I found I just had to tell myself that running is hard work and shouldn't feel too easy--the mental aspect of a marathon certainly came into play early on.
I got into a good groove about half-way when I met up with a runner at my same pace and we talked the rest of the way. That really helped. Luckily I never hit the "wall" which surprised me becuase I only ran one really long run. I was ecstatic to beat my goal time by 6 minutes.
My other marathons have really been variable experiences. Sometimes hitting the "wall", other times feeling pretty good. The other time I qualified for Boston I felt similar during the race as I did at Myrtle Beach. I finished in about the same time too (16 seconds faster at the other marthon).
Anyway that's it I guess. I'm going to run Boston this April and it will be my 10th marathon.
Again, thanks for the help. see you, Siobhan.
Great job Siobhan, chip time of 3:39:37 (clock time 3:41:18) and good luck in Boston!
