It's that time of year again, the 2008 Triathlon season is already here. This is our third year, and after two very successful years where we prepared athletes for the Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series, this year we're teaming up with Tempo Indoor Cycling to deliver the ultimate multi-sport and triathlon training program.

What is it?

A revolutionary approach to swimming, cycling, running and triathlon training.  Via access to periodization based training at Tempo Indoor Cycling, and access to the TrySports Multi-Sport Club (with TryRun, TrySwim, and TryBike activity groups), you will receive a personalized training program to help you achieve your fitness goals and prepare for your preferred event (e.g. from a 5k walk to an IronMan distance triathlon).

Who's it for?

Everybody!

The benefit of access to Tempo Indoor Cycling’s fitness studio and spin bikes, means everybody from the absolute beginner to the elite athlete, can train side by side, yet each working to their own abilities, to improve their cardio fitness and aerobic base, as a foundation for all future specific event training.

Your goal will be to complete one or more of the 2008 Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series, to be held on the following dates:

  • 15th June
  • 6th July
  • 27th July
  • 10th August

Or you may have another event or race in mind, just let us know: the date; the distances; and your current abilities; and we'll make sure we get you there!

Joining the triathlon training program through Try Sports was the best decision I could have made. Being a novice, I was scared that I could not keep up or fit in. I had no reason to fear. The staff at Try Sports and the other people in the training program were wonderful. It was great to have people teach you the correct way to train and to cheer you on the whole way. During the races, having your new friends shouting your name and ready to hug you after the race was wonderful. I cannot wait to train with them again.

TrySports’ Coaching Team

Our experienced team will coach the Weekend Bike & Run groups as well as the Swimming:

  • Stephen Schlachter – Conference champion in decathlon in college and also placed 1st in age group in Duke Bluedevil (ironman distance triathlon). Stephen is also a qualified personal trainer and specializes in aerobic and gym fitness.

  • Neil McDonagh – Local 5Km and 10Km road race champion, finishing 1st local and 16th overall in the 2006 Cooper River Bridge Run 10Km, and 1st overall in the 2006 Turkey Day Run and Reindeer Run 5Km races, setting a new course record. Neil also competed in his first triathlon last year, the 4th CSTS on 13th August, and finished 16th overall and 1st in his age group.
  • Angela Klick – Training for and participating in all sorts of sports all her life, Angela is an experienced Sprint & Olympic distance triathlete, as well as a Marathon runner and avid soccer player.

  • David Thomas – Another super young local elite Triathlete, finishing in the top 5 of all of the four sprint races last year, and in the top 3 for three of them. Dave has also coached Snee Farm Swim Team for years, so he's going to be a great asset on the pool deck.

Assistant Coaches

  • Jim Kirwan – Owner of TrySports and over 10 years experience of Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons in both the USA and Europe.
  • Tracy Schooler - Almost an unknown to running 5 years ago, Tracy is now classified as one of the "local elites", competing frequently in 5km, 10km and Half Marathon races.

Tempo Indoor Cycling Coaches

  • Kyle Radaker – MS is widely recognized as a fitness expert, author, speaker and spokesperson integrating knowledge and experience from a variety of fields. After owning and operating his own Personal Training and Strength Conditioning business in Santa Fe, NM, Kyle returned to the academic setting, graduating from Duke University in 1999 with a BS in Psychology. He continued his academic pursuit earning a Masters in Exercise and Sport Science from UNC, Greensboro in 2001 with a focus in Exercise and Sport Psychology..

  • Anne Finch, MS has been an athlete her entire life. From her years as a competitive swimmer, she has a strong understanding of the importance of scientifically based training plans. Anne received a BS in Biology from the University of South Carolina in 1995, and a Masters in Physiology from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1997. After several years of raising her children, Anne decided to return her focus to individual performance and endurance sports. In addition to swimming, she began to participate in cycling and running. As her experience as a triathlete has grown, so has her passion for teaching others the value of proper training and nutrition.

When does it start?

Whenever you’re ready!

We’re offering our training programs all year round, that way you can start whenever you’re ready and know what future event you are targeting.  We will perform a one-on-one interview to determine and create your personalized training program, and set you on your way.

We are going to start our first structured 3 month training program on Tuesday 13th May, to give people 12 weeks to train for the 4th Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series race in James Island on 10th August.  (Individuals may choose to train for alternative events).
