Meet Your Mount Pleasant Staff.

The staff of "store #1" are some of the most inspiring, dedicated and inclusive group of athletes in the lowcountry. Always ready to lend a helping hand, they'll teach you all about how to "Get under it," "Get over it," and cycle up and down and all around it!

Jim Kirwan
Acting Store Manager

The owner of TrySports, Jim Kirwan, shown here with his son James, was educated at Belvedere College, Dublin and University College Dublin where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1977. He worked at the Bank of Ireland from 1973 to 1990, largely in a range of human resources management roles in Dublin and London. He left the bank in to set up his own human resources management consultancy business focused on the fast growing International Financial Services Center in Dublin., and he is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Jim brought his family to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina during 2003 to start a new sports-focused business, and TrySports opened its doors in February 2004.

Jim has a passion for sport and has a particular interest in following the fortunes of the Irish rugby team. However, his first love is running and he has run for many years though in more recent years he has found the joys of the sport of triathlon. His passion for the aerobic sports of running, swimming, cycling, gym fitness and triathlon have been instrumental in the opening of TrySports.

Andrew Taylor

Assistant Store Manager

Andrew Taylor uses running as a way to release many different stressors that we all experience on a daily basis. For him, running is the key piece of the puzzle when it comes to mental, physical and emotional health. Andrew encourages everyone to find the exercise that most improves their quality of life, and enjoy it to the maximum. Most notably, Andrew has completed the Columbus Marathon four times, the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, Pikes Peak Ascent, the National Marathon, the Hocking Hills 40K and 60K, three Half Ironman events, and a handful of other shorter distance road races and triathlons.

Andrew has a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science Education and a Masters Degree in Sport Management from The Ohio State University, and will bleed Scarlet & Grey for life. In addition, Andrew has spent time as a Personal Trainer, Race Director, and Volunteer High School Track & Field and Cross Country Coach. Andrew has a cat named ‘Jack’ that weighed 25 pounds three years ago, but through a sound diet and a string chasing exercise routine, Jack has lost 8 pounds.

More than anything, Andrew likes to see those he comes across reach their goals and full potential, while along the way discovering new things about themselves.
